U.S. Lifts Military Equipment Ban In Vietnam

Post 202 of 228

The U.S. is lifting restrictions on arms sales to Vietnam.  President Obama says it’s the next step in normalizing relations between the two former enemies.  At a press conference today in Vietnam alongside the nation’s president, Obama said lifting the ban was part of broadening U.S.-Vietnam cooperation including issues of trade and security.  He referenced recent territory disputes in the South China Sea where China has been building up islands to back its maritime claims.  Several nations dispute those claims, including Vietnam.
